New Beginnings – a Garden for Entertaining

We transformed this sun-soaked, barren new build garden into a place that offered a place to relax as well as entertain. At 375 m2, this was a generous sized garden set within a modern housing development.

Using deep borders, bringing planting away from the boundaries, and a generous lawn, we achieved the open feel desired by the clients whilst creating private seating pockets nestled amongst planting. Overall, the garden offered visual appeal from the house, enticing the clients out after an intense day at work.

A large terrace for entertaining connects the kitchen with the garden. Nearby, an informal gravel area detailed with linear paving and softened with billowing planting offers a place for a party to expand into the garden. On a more practical note, this area also has a provides essential space for drying washing.

From the terrace, a contemporary linear paved path leads through the garden past a bespoke water feature. Beyond, generous staggered deck steps, which work with the existing ground levels, offers both an informal place to sit and a meandering route to the pergola destination. Here, a sheltered, relaxing spot can be enjoyed in the evening sun or offers shelter on a scorching day and affords an alternative view of the garden.

We created a vibrant and rich layered planting palette that brings the garden to life year-round and offers plenty of interest for people whilst extending a habitat for wildlife. Trees with a light canopy have been introduced around the garden and in time will increase screening from neighbouring properties.

The lawn with nearby bench offers a place to relax of an afternoon whilst others play or sit on the lawn.
